‘Let The Sun Shine in.’ But Take Steps to Protect Your Skin!

It’s the time of year when people head to the beach, go camping, ride bicycles or simply enjoy a walk through the neighborhood.

The Cucamonga Valley Medical Group team has tips to help you avoid sunburn or severe reactions to the summer heat. CVMG’s Procedure Clinics can also help you with all of your skin care needs.

“As summer approaches, there are several things you can do to help protect your skin while having fun in the sun,” said licensed and certified Physician Assistant Yumi Wong, who specializes in dermatology at the CVMG Procedure Clinics.

“Prolonged sun exposure can cause damage to your skin, resulting in wrinkles, sunspots and skin cancer,” Wong said. “There are many steps you can take to avoid the harmful effects of UV rays emitted by the sun.”

As is traditionally the case, common sense goes a long way.

“Apply sunscreen with SPF 15 or more and reapply every 2 to 3 hours, or more often if you are in the water,” Wong said. “Stay in the shade as much as possible and wear protective clothing and wide brimmed hats to physically shield your skin from the sun.”

Cucamonga Valley Medical Group encourages you to follow such steps while you are enjoying summer activities, whether you’re swimming in the ocean or having a backyard barbecue. We also are here for you at our locations throughout the Inland Empire.

“Living in Southern California, sometimes it is impossible to avoid being exposed to the sun,” Wong said. “Part of taking care of your body is examining your skin regularly and looking for changes in moles, skin color and texture and sores or lesions that do not heal. Here at CVMG, we offer skin cancer screenings and perform procedures such as biopsies, cryotherapy and excisions.”
