It’s OK to say it aloud! “Finally, 2020 is over!” The past year presented numerous challenges, with the COVID-19 pandemic resting squarely atop the list.
Now that 2021 is here, you might have drafted a summary of your New Year’s resolutions. Since we’re only a week into the new calendar, chances are you’re still sticking to those resolutions.
It’s important to set realistic goals especially when it involves matters of your health.
You don’t have to say, “I’m going to lose 60 pounds,” or, “I’ll quit smoking cold turkey.” Set attainable goals and take the appropriate steps to reach those goals. Take off a few pounds each week. If you have to, gradually cut back on the cigarettes before calling it quits.
Put a plan in motion
Stating your resolution is Step 1 — and an important step at that. But it’s just as significant to put a plan into motion when trying to lose weight, quitting smoking or implementing a better diet and exercise routine. Consult your physician. At CVMG we’re here to help.
Leave your comfort zone
Try something new. Challenge yourself. Get out of your so-called comfort zone. It can provide both inspiration and motivation.
Try different items from the healthy food menu. Maybe, take a cooking class online during the COVID-19 pandemic. Explore the options to plant a garden and grow your own vegetables later this year.
Walk. Jog. Run. Swim. Ride a bicycle. Keep your body in motion while still managing to follow social-distancing and masking guidelines. Exercise is an asset for both your physical and mental well-being.
Don’t beat yourself up
Remember, we’ve adapted to life amid a global pandemic for almost a year, and more work remains to be done. Coronavirus guidelines and restrictions are in place for your protection but sometimes the routine can be stressful.
Set goals. Do your best to reach those goals. Remain focused on the positive aspects of life. Look forward and don’t dwell on things in the past that you can’t change.
