Dr. Brandon Tong is more than his profession. He’s a husband, a father of three children under the age of five, and a sneaker enthusiast (more on that later).

Dr. Tong and our team of skilled providers are now seeing patients at our Chino – South Ontario location and can accommodate English, Spanish, and Mandarin-speaking patients of all ages.

Though his medical expertise and level of care he provides our patients is important, we also want you to get to know Dr. Tong on a personal level.

To do that, we did a Q&A interview to find out how he spends his time when he’s not at work and how he achieves a healthy work/life balance.

Beyond the White Coat: Dr. Brandon Tong

Q. Why did you become a doctor?

My answer is three-fold. First and foremost, I’m a Christian and I want to be able to live out my values and help people. Secondly, medicine has always been on my mind. My father was a physician, so from a young age, I was aware of the potential to follow in his footsteps and go into the medical field. Finally, I love sneakers and being a physician at CVMG gives me the chance to show off my collection of over 200 pairs. Growing up in the 80s and 90s, I fell in love with sneakers. I’ve always been a huge basketball fan and sneakers are closely tied to the culture. From there, my interest evolved.

My favorite pair, although picking one is like picking your favorite child (something you just can’t do!), are the Air Jordan III True Blue.

Q. Why are you passionate about being part of the CVMG team?

Before I joined the CVMG team, my wife was a patient. From her experience alone, I knew she was receiving quality care from experienced providers.

When the opportunity to join the team presented itself, I acted quickly because I wanted to work for a group that I fully believed in.

From patient care to company culture, CVMG was and has continued to be a perfect fit for me.

Q. What do you like most about CVMG?

For me, it boils down to who I work with. I enjoy working with people who are aligned by overarching values and goals to make sure every patient that walks through our doors is Treated Like Family. 

There will always be ups and downs, but when you’re surrounded by good people, it makes everything more manageable.

Q. How do you spend your downtime?

My “downtime” is filled with three kids under five.

When I’m not at work, you can find me spending time with my wife and kids building Legos, going outside,and doing whatever we can to enjoy quality time together.

Before the pandemic my family and I were Disneyland annual passholders so we’d visit the park frequently. Hopefully, one day soon, we’ll be able to safely go back!

Q. How do you balance your professional and personal life?

It’s easier said than done, but when I’m not at work I’m fully engaged and present with my family. I make a cognizant effort to put my phone away and direct my attention to what’s going on in the moment.

Q. What’s something someone might not know about you?

I’m fluent in Spanish and that’s partially because I lived in Mexico during my freshman and sophomore years of college. I also minored in Spanish.

In addition to my love of sneakers, I’m also a HUGE fan of Taylor Swift!
